Adding your first products
What a product needs before it can be sold, and the fields that are worth filling in properly.
A product is the thing you sell, and it lives in Menu. Products are not tied to any particular bake day β you build the list once and then choose which of them you are baking on a given day.
The minimum
- A name customers will recognise.
- A price.
- A photo. Bakeable can generate one when it builds your site, but a real photo of your own bread outsells a generated one every time.
Worth filling in
| Field | Why it earns its keep |
|---|---|
| Description | Shown in the product detail dialog on your storefront, and used as source material when Bakeable writes your site copy. |
| Allergens | Appears as a "Contains" row on the product card and in full in the detail dialog. It is the question customers ask most, and answering it on the page saves you the message. |
| Categories | Once you have products in two or more categories, your storefront grows a filter bar above the menu. Below two, no filter appears. |
| Unit label | Lets capacity read as "100 cookies" instead of a bare number. |
| Baking capacity | The default number you can make. See the capacity article β it is the last fallback before "unlimited". |
A product filed under several categories shows up under every one of their filter chips. Uncategorised products only appear under "All".
